The Buller Gorge Marathon Committee have done a review of our event and wished to advise the following changes:
Full Marathon Walk:
This section is no longer available due to a number of reasons. The substantial amount of resources required to ensure the safety of all our competitors and volunteers coupled with the increasing decline in participants numbers over a number of years were our main considerations in deciding to discontinue this category. Whilst we understand that this will be disappointing for some participants, we ask that you respect this decision and know that it was one that wasn’t taken lightly. We continue to offer a half marathon recreational walk.
Age Group Categories Men
Men’s categories will now been the same as the women’s’ as follows:
• Under 20
• 20 – 34
• 35 – 44
• 45 – 54
• 55 – 64
• 65 & OVER
Heritage 10km:
This event is advertised as “fun walk/run” and will continue as such. Our aim is to offer at a minimal cost inclusiveness for those who are unable to participant in the main events. This means that no age group categories nor prizes will be awarded at the prizegiving. All participants however are eligible for a “spot prize” drawn randomly when finishing the walk/run and these will continue to be given out at the finish line as in previous years and collected prior to the prizegiving at 5pm.
Definition of Local:
To be eligible for “local’ prize/s the participant must be living within the boundaries of Buller Region for the preceding two years prior to race day. Having a local address on your registration form does not automatically prove eligibility as a local and the Race Director reserves the right to request proof of such at their discretion.
